SMG Architects Hires Brian Berry

BALTIMORE, MD  14 August, 2006 --   Brian Berry joined the Baltimore office of SMG Architects as Graduate Architect and Historic Preservation Specialist to support the firm’s portfolio of historic preservation work.  He will provide historic structure reports, feasibility studies, schematic design, conservation assessment surveys, code review, specification writing, and construction documents.

Mr. Berry’s most recent experience was with GWWO, Inc/Architects in Baltimore, where he worked on the firm’s historic structure report for the Lockwood House in Harpers Ferry, WV, and the construction documents for a project at the Sackler Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution.

“Brian will add substantial depth to our historic preservation work.  His historic sleuthing and discoveries about how old buildings came together provides an invaluable resource to our clients,” said Walter Schamu, FAIA, President and founder of SMG Architects.

Mr. Berry earned a Bachelor of Architecture as well as a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design and General Psychology from Ball State University in Muncie, IN.  He is currently completing his thesis for a Master of Architecture.

As a second year design student, Mr. Berry served as an Adjunct Professor for the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State University.  He has also taught AutoCAD Fundamentals at Ivy-Tech State College in Muncie, IN.

Mr. Berry is a certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) and Construction Document Technician (CDT).  He is a member of Preservation Maryland; the National Trust for Historic Preservation; the Congress for New Urbanism; the Construction Specification Institute; and the Historic Landmark Foundation of Indiana.
