History

1982     Walter Schamu & Associates is founded at 122 E. Churchill Street in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood.  The firm’s concentration is on residential design.
   
1984 The firm expands to 107 E. Preston Street, Baltimore, developing a focus on historic preservation, renovation, rehabilitation and adaptive use.
   
1987 Anthony Machowski, AIA and Peter Doo, AIA join the firm, creating Schamu Machowski Doo & Associates (SMDA Architects), adding research laboratory and institutional work, diversifying the firm’s capabilities and expanding in size to 20 employees.  The office moves to a larger space at 1001 Cathedral Street, Baltimore.
   
1990 The firm opens a branch office in Wheeling, West Virginia, led by Victor Greco, AIA.  The Wheeling office provides academic, healthcare, institutional, commercial and residential design for clients in West Virginia, western Maryland and Ohio.
   
1994 The Baltimore headquarters moves to 1016 Morton Street, a former carriage house in the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood.
   
2000 Victor Greco is named partner and the firm is renamed Schamu Machowski Greco Architects, Inc.
   
2004 SMG Architects establishes a Healthcare Design Studio.
   
2006 SMG Architects’ Healthcare Design Studio continues to expand.  The firm continues its successful relationship with hospitals, and focuses on historic preservation, residential, commercial, educational, religious, hospitality, club, and senior living clients.
